Description
Three woman - the homeless Golbahar (Pardis Ahmadieh), the relentless human-rights lawyer Sara Nedayi (Negar Javaherian), and the veteran gynaecologist Dr Pandar (Fatemeh Motamed-Arya) - are at the centre of Reza Dormishian’s gutpunch of a drama. In thrall to a vicious pimp, Golbahar has been forced to produce children for sale since she was 11. But something is wrong - she has failed to become pregnant with her latest client. To her profound surprise, medical tests suggest she has had a tubal ligation. Enter lawyer Nedayi, who senses that a monstrous wrong has been committed by Dr Pandar. But are things really so cut and dried? Dormishian’s relentless camera stalks his characters with an urgency that is riveting.
‘Dormishian is one of the most original directors in Iranian cinema, and No Choiceis another example of his ability to enthral with hard-hitting social critique… Engrossing,
well-made and well-acted.’ — Deborah Young, The Hollywood Reporter
