The ‘old lady’ of the title is the deceased Smaranda, wife of the self-sufficient Emil (Mircea Andreescu), and confidante (and more?) to Emil’s best friend and neighbour, the wheelchair-bound Titi (Valer Dellakeza). Her death has left a gaping hole in the elderly men’s existences, which they try to fill in very different ways: Emil keeps himself busy
and assumes the role of Titi’s caretaker; Titi starts building his own coffin and withdraws further into himself. Titi’s problem? The ghost of Smaranda has moved in with him,
something the rationalist Emil rejects out of hand… Director Andrei Gruzsnicki’s tender ode to a querulous lifelong friendship.
