Description

In ‘100UP’, director Heddy Honigmann meets a colourful collection of people 100 years old and older from different parts of the world. They have lived for more than a century and witnessed great historical events, but instead of dwelling on the past, they look ahead. With the clock ticking inexorably, these centenarians seize the day, set new goals with an undimmed joie de vivre, and refuse to give in to the decay of their bodies. Time is both their enemy and their friend. They overcame diseases, lost partners, and some have even outlived their own children. Yet these active, curious and creative 100-somethings are amazingly good at starting each new day… ‘As in all her films, Peruvian-born Dutch director Honigmann doesn’t waste time, transporting us straight away into her often slightly contrasting but always intimate and delightful worlds… With boundless curiosity and using a direct, yet modest approach towards her subjects, many of her films address how people from all walks of life cope with adversity, tragedy and trauma without losing their spark. In these works Honigmann creates an atmosphere where anything could happen, but the bottom line is that she is always able to elicit intimate and honest responses.’—Martijn te Pas, Business Doc Europe
