Description

Famous writer Marcel (the great Benoît Poelvoorde), his editor-wife of 25 years, Jeanne (Melanie Doutey), and their young daughter, Lucie (Janaina Halloy Fokan), are settling in at their inherited country mansion when a young woman, Gloria (Alba Gaïa Bellugi), does them a service by returning their lost dog. Thus does veteran Belgian director Fabrice du Welz set the stage for an interloper thriller in which the increasingly malignant Gloria—who soon becomes Lucie’s babysitter—is not what she seems, and events from Marcel’s past rise up to threaten all.

‘As the film gains momentum, [it grows] increasingly stylized towards a high 1970s giallo level of luridly colourful presentation as events become more outré… Poelvoorde delivers an expert descent from pompous jerk to desperate prey, Bellugi ceding to him the film’s most flamboyant notes even as Gloria gets ever more glam in her craziness. Douley is also formidable as a spouse who can only be pushed so far.’—Dennis Harvey, Variety
