The 4K restoration of Seven Samurai tells the gripping story of desperate villagers in a 16th-century village who hire seven samurai to protect them from bandits. This monumental action-adventure weaves philosophy and entertainment, subtle human emotion and relentless action into a rich, visually stunning historical thriller and moral-political parable in one. Kurosawa’s storytelling had a major influence on later westerns and action films and was widely admired by fellow filmmakers. Peter Jackson, for example, drew inspiration from Kurosawa’s dramatic use of rain for the battle scenes in The Lord of the Rings. The film includes a short 5-minute intermission halfway through.
