The Gullspång Miracle

While house hunting, old May discovers an apartment with exactly the kind of embroidered still life on the wall she was looking for. When she and her sister Kari meet the seller, they almost fall over; the woman looks exactly like their sister Lita, who died years earlier. Kari and May approached director Maria Frederiksson themselves, who decided not to hide behind the camera, but to become part of the film herself. It is hard to believe that this is her first documentary, so sure is her direction of the bizarre story, which is sometimes reminiscent of the documentary Three Identical Strangers (2018), including hidden layers that gradually come to the surface. Frederiksson also raises interesting questions about matters such as personal identity, faith and family.
