Description

Behind the closed doors of the Tetterode building in Amsterdam, one of the biggest artist communities of the city has been living a quiet life for nearly 45 years. The residents squatted the building in the 1980s and repurposed it following the principles of self-management and guerrilla architecture. For decades, they preserved a liberated zone where they could paint, sculpt, write, and be free. Now in the autumn of their lives, the community stands at a crossroads: The commercial real estate pressure is greater than ever and a younger generation must take over. Will there still be room for this unique community in the future of Amsterdam?

The film will be introduced by a lecture by Strijbosch & Van Rijswijk. Jeroen Strijbos and Rob van Rijswijk are sound artists, composers, and developers of their own studio complex in the Lange Nieuwstraat in Tilburg. Through their installations and compositions, they transform everyday places, objects, spaces, and sometimes even your thoughts. With over 25 years of experience, they have created a body of work through continuous experimentation and the application of creativity, exploring new ground in participatory site-specific sound artworks. Their own studio also serves as a meeting place where, together with fellow complementary creators, they form a multidisciplinary collective.
