TIAFF 2025 The world according to Weeber

This captivating portrait of Carel Weeber, an ‘un-Dutch architect’, is like a journey through time. Compiled from rare film fragments, the film tells the story of an unconventional architect, who was not afraid to take on the establishment and was averse to fashionable trends. Weeber famously coined the term 'nieuwe truttigheid' to descrive the small-scale architecture of the 1970s. With his initiative 'Het Wilde Wonen' he aimed his arrows at what he saw as the patronising architecture of the state and the interference of government in public housing. With his outspoken buildings, but especially with his provocative statements and ideas, Carel Weeber was a striking figure who made an exceptional contribution to architecture in the Netherlands via education and media for decades.

The film will be introduced by a lecture by Jord den Hollander Jord is an architect and filmmaker. After studying architecture, he pursued a screenwriting program at the Film School in London. Throughout his career, he has frequently combined both disciplines. He created documentaries on architecture, worked for the children’s program ‘Het Klokhuis’, and designed an educational center for the same program in Almere. In 2000, he founded the Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam (AFFR). During TIAFF, Jord will introduce his film ‘The World According to Weeber’ about architect Carel Weeber.
