One of the most anticipated Hollywood films of the year, Steven Spielberg’s re-make of the 1961 classic musical actually wrapped shooting in October 2019 but was shelved until now, due to the pandemic. The story of forbidden love between star-crossed lovers Maria (Rachel Zegler) and Tony (Ansel Elgort,), and the rivalry between teen gangs the Jets and Sharks set against the backdrop of mid-1950s New York, has been re-imagined for a new generation by Oscar- and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner. But don’t worry! The music of Leonard Bernstein and the lyrics of Stephen Sondheim remain intact, and the classics so many have come to love—‘Maria’, ‘America’, ‘Somewhere’—are given new resonance. And be prepared to be dazzled by the choreography of Tony Award-winner Justin Peck, Resident Choreographer for the New York City Ballet.
