Description

The French-Arabic Patience Portefeux (the great Isabelle Huppert) is a translator working for the police in the anti-drug unit, specializing in wiretap conversations of Arabic-speaking suspects. While translating a bugged call from a notorious drug dealer, Patience learns that the son of a helpful woman who cares for her ailing mother is in danger of being busted while transporting a huge load of hashish. After her decision to protect him, Patience—who is always struggling to make ends meet—has an idea: now that she is compromised, why not take advantage of her situation, hijack the drugs and go into business for herself? ‘Mama Weed’ is born…

‘Cleverly conceived and amusingly performed… Salomé’s portrait of a middle-aged woman trying to make ends meet on her own, and selling hundreds of kilos of narcotics to do so, proves to be a tender study of emancipation with few regrets… Huppert brings so much chic experience (over 120 screen credits and counting) and easygoing chutzpah to the part that… you may find yourself sort of just going with the flow.’—Jordan Mintzer, The Hollywood Reporter
