Joker: Folie À Deux – Friday, October 4 at 8:30 PM
In this new film, Joaquin Phoenix can be seen again as Arthur Fleck/Joker, the double role for which he previously won an Oscar, together with Oscar winner Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born).
In Joker: Folie À Deux, Arthur Fleck is imprisoned in Arkham awaiting trial for the crimes he committed as Joker. But as he struggles with his split personality, Arthur finds the love and music that has always been within him.

Film journalist Hugo Emmerzael will give an introduction to the film at Cinecitta on Friday, October 4 at 8:30 PM. He already saw Joker: Folie à Deux at the Venice Film Festival and said the following after his viewing experience there: “The high-strung sequel to Joker is a different story: a romantic melodrama and musical in one. I really enjoyed the passionate sentiment within this grim supervillain universe feels almost radical.”
Hugo Emmerzael is a film journalist, curator and programmer. He is editor of the Filmkrant and writes for, among others, the VPRO Gids, MUBI Notebook and Senses of Cinema. Since 2020, he has curated the Directors’ Forum at the Dutch Film Festival. He has served on juries at the Cannes, Venice, Karlovy Vary and Moscow film festivals.
