Blandine (Olivia Côte) is recently divorced, and her only son Benji is leaving home. She doesn't know what to do with her life. But then suddenly her loud and fearless school friend Magalie (the fabulous Laure Calamy) shows up. Spontaneously, she decides to accompany Blandine on a trip they dreamed of as teenagers: to Amorgos, the beautiful Greek island where their favourite movie ‘Le Grand Bleu’ was filmed. Once at their destination, it turns out that Blandine and Magalie have very different ideas about holidays, love, and life... ‘Les Cyclades’ is a summer comedy about friendship, growing older, and learning to let go. The French feel-good film by director Marc Fitoussi shows the power of women who rediscover the joy of life against the background of picturesque villages and sunny beaches. As a bonus, the film features an entertaining supporting role by Kristin Scott Thomas.
‘In the energetic duo formed by Olivia Côte and Laure Calamy, we find the dynamics of clownish oppositions from the commedia dell'arte, where behind a whimsical extroverted personality lies a moving vulnerability… Fitoussi goes beyond the clichés of the [tourist] postcard and makes the deep issues of his characters vibrate.’—Cédric Lépine, Mediapart
