TIAFF 2022 – High Energy
With the choice of the theme High Energy, TIAFF hooks up with the conversation about the role of architecture in this period. In the (post-)corona era, at a historic peak of prosperity we find ourselves in a strange cocktail of urgent spatial issues, ecological and social crises, war, inflation and the tension of recession. Is this a rare, perfect time for change?

Architektur muss brennen
The title refers to the manifesto with which architect Wolf D. Prix turned the architecture world upside down in 1968 as a revolutionary and activist. Inspired by the happenings of the sixties, he and Helmut Swiczinsky started the office Coop Himmelb(l)au, which caused a storm with buildings that looked like they were about to explode. They became the figurehead of deconstructivism with projects such as the Martin Luther Church in Hainsburg and the Groninger Museum. The documentary shows how idiosyncratic thinkers produce important innovation in architecture.
Kristian Koreman of ZUS (Zones Urbaines Sensibles)
Kristian Koreman (1978), together with Elma van Boxel, runs the Rotterdam office ZUS (Zones Urbaines Sensibles). Since its foundation in 2001, ZUS has worked in the fields of architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture, and in pushing the boundaries between these domains. ZUS creates progressive projects that nurture long-term responsibility and invite engagement. These projects are never solitary statements but always anchored in place and design traditions. In 2007 ZUS won the Maaskant prize for young architects and in 2012 the firm became Architect of the Year (small firms category). ZUS was curator of the 5th International Architecture Biennale in Rotterdam and of the first BMW Guggenheim Lab in New York. Also, ZUS is the designer of the Stadsforum in Tilburg.
