TIAFF 2024 OPENINGSAVOND
On Friday, April 5, the ninth edition of TIAFF opens with a festive program of lecture with film. With Habitat as its theme, TIAFF delves into the shaping of our living environment, seeking the imagination and discussion surrounding the housing challenge.
Description
The evening will be opened by Marc Glaudemans, who will step down as TIAFF's president after six years. He will hand over the baton to Floris Alkemade, who will join the TIAFF team as president in the coming years. He takes us through the theme of this edition: HABITAT.
Next, Studioninedots will give the opening lecture. Studioninedots is an Amsterdam-based architecture and urban planning firm specializing in projects that (re)activate and transform complex urban sites. Playfully challenging the existing boundaries of architectural convention, they create new kinds of places, putting the needs of the users at the center.
Following the lecture, the film "Enter through the Balcony" will be screened. This short documentary is a loving ode to life in Ukrainian cities, and the phenomenon of the balcony as a small architectural form. The title "Enter through the Balcony" refers to the way in Soviet times large properties were split into apartments to curb the housing crisis of the postwar years. Through the eyes of owners, city officials, historians, sociologists, urban planners, developers and architects, the film takes a look at the balcony as appropriated personalized space. It offers an in-depth look at how people shape their own living environments when the lack of regulations gives them that space.
