Learn how to sing opera by professional Dutch tenor Jacques de Faber (Opera Zuid).
Are you an enthusiastic opera lover or participant in a choir, a beginner or an experienced singer, and would you like to become acquainted with singing opera pieces? Then you can participate in the Opera Singing workshop at the Music Film Festival. Prior to the film registration of the opera ‘Elisir d’Amore’ by the Italian composer Donizetti and performed by Opera Zuid, there will be a workshop in Filmtheater Cinecitta in Tilburg. There, tenor singer Jacques de Faber teaches the participants what is involved in singing arias and bass parts: how to make your vocal cords resonate, how to improve your singing technique and maintain the right tone, and how to give a good performance at the same time.
Jacques de Faber is an opera singer with Opera Zuid and the Dutch Reis Opera. Despite his young age, he has been in the business for a long time. He started with the Rotterdam Boys Choir, played in various operas at Opera Ahoy and then at Jeugdtheater Hofplein. After graduating from the sports academy of The Hague, he decided to follow his second passion and studied singing at the Conservatory in Maastricht and later in Rome (as an Erasmus student) and Utrecht.
Since then, De Faber has sung at the Brussels Operette Theater, BarokOpera Amsterdam, De Nederlandse Reisopera and Opera Nijetrijne, among others. He also has several roles to his name at Opera Zuid, including in Káťa Kabanová by Janáček, Die Zauberflöte by Mozart, Un ballo in maschera by Verdi and Roméo et Juliette by Gounod.
After this workshop there will be the film recording of the opera l’Elise d’Amore by Opera Zuid conducted by the Argentinian director Marcos Darbyshire. Tickets can be purchased separately or – at a discount – as a combination ticket workshop + opera film.
