Description

Winner of the Best Actor (for Ali Atay) and Best Screenplay in the International Narrative Competition at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival, Cenk Ertürk’s drama focuses on the strained relationship between a father and son. Troubled middle-aged Ömer (Atay) tries to honour his ill father Ibrahim’s (Haluk Bilginer) wish to be buried beneath the tree he planted as a youth back in his home village. However, the local villagers are sure that the same tree was actually planted by Noah after the flood—and they are adamant that nothing will disturb what has become a lucrative tourist attraction…

‘A thoughtful and deeply felt debut from Cenk Ertürk, "Noah Land" probes ethical questions about the price of victory while weighing a human tendency to react in extremes. As Ömer and Ibrahim begin to open up to each other, it also becomes a story about good faith—both in terms of trusting another’s intentions and trusting one’s own.’—Frederic Boyer, Tribeca Film Festival
