Description

In the near future, everyone will have a robot in their home, including Jack (Colin Farrell) and his wife Kyra (Jodie Turner-Smith): their android Yang acts as an older brother to their adopted daughter Mika. When Yang breaks down, Jack is determined to do everything he can to restore the beloved robot. During this quest, Jack learns to see the world again and to reconnect with his wife and daughter… Writer-director Kogonada made a splash with his first film, the essayistic architecture-based drama ‘Columbus’, and this, his sophomore effort, nabbed a spot in the prestigious Un Certain Regard sidebar at Cannes last year. ‘A contemplative, slow burn sci-fi drama about what it means to be alive, and who gets to be \"alive\" … Writer-director Kogonada (\"Columbus\")… has a… delicate touch, and is interested in exploring ideas of memory, grief and loss. It's a deeply cerebral work that is just as much about what is unsaid as what is said… Whatever the future of filmmaking looks like, Kogonada has a place in it.’—Adam Graham, Detroit News
