Description

Preview screening reports had young fans absolutely gushing over Greta Gerwig’s sharp, feminist reinvention of the Barbie world. In Barbieland, everything and everyone is perfect. Unless you have an existential crisis, as one Barbie (Margot Robbie) does. Or if you are a Ken. (There are many Barbies and many Kens in the film, played by such luminaries as pop star Dua Lipa and ‘Bridgeton’ lead Nicola Coughlin on the Barbie side of the ledger and Ryan Gosling and Kingsley Ben-Adir on the Ken side.) Oscar-nominated writer/director Gerwig—who co-wrote the screenplay with Noah Baumbach (‘Marriage Story’, ‘The Squid and the Whale’)—brings style and panache along with her feminist insights to the tale. With a cameo by Will Ferrell and narration by Helen Mirren, this is poised to be a summer blockbuster.
