Fed up with their home country’s phallocentric fixation and macho culture, filmmakers and bickering life partners Gustav Hofer and Luca Ragazzi ('Italy Love it or Leave It') go on a colourful and ironic investigative road trip exploring different areas of Italian culture—education, church, family, media, and politics—to find out why their society is still so macho driven. Is it culturally determined or is it biologically ingrained? They interview experts, people on the street, politicians, and a porn star, and end up at a party in honour of the phallus. What, exactly, is the close connection in Italy between the so-called three Ps: Penis, Power and Politics…?
‘[The film is] really valuable for the way it shows how to make arguments that are clear and logical. Hofter and Ragazzi really listen, even to the most reprehensible people like [porn star Rocco] Siffredi, in order to understand where misogynist attitudes come from so they can then show not only why someone is wrong, but how deeply pervasive their attitudes are across culture.’—Kevin Ritchie, NOW Magazine
