The Albanian Virgin

Albania 1958. It is the time of the communist regime of dictator Enver Hoxha. Religion and books are banned, freedom of speech does not exist. Luana is the strong-willed and rebellious daughter of a respected man, deep in the Albanian mountains where tradition is of paramount importance. According to age-old laws, she must marry a man chosen by her family and whom she must obey. This marriage forces her to deny her love for her childhood friend Agim. Luana, who learned to read and think independently from Agim, discovers more and more that being a woman is a curse. She then does everything she can to escape her role as victim and gain power over her own life
