Halloween Movie Classic with Experience: Carrie – Thursday, October 31 at 9:00 PM
About the movie Carrie
The shy and sensitive teenager Carrie White (Sissy Spacek) is weighed down by bullying from her classmates at school, while at home she is dominated by her extremely religious mother (Piper Laurie). A series of strange events lead her to suspect that she possesses supernatural powers. When Tommy Ross (William Katt), a sympathetic boy, invites her to the prom, things take a dark and violent turn.
The film is based on Stephen King’s first published story from 1974. In the initial version of the script, writer Lawrence D. Cohen remained faithful to the original story. However, director Brian De Palma decided to abandon this approach and tell Carrie’s story in a completely linear way.
Brian De Palma is one of Hollywood’s greatest stylists from the 1970s to the ’90s. With Carrie, he introduced John Travolta and demonstrated his unique eye for blending editing, music, sound effects, and cinematography.
