Description

The much-anticipated new film from ‘Moulin Rouge’ and ‘The Great Gatsby’ director Baz Luhrmann explores the life and music of Elvis ‘the Pelvis’ Presley (Austin Butler, ‘Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood’) from the perspective of his complicated relationship with his mysterious and manipulative manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks). The story chronicles the complex dynamics between Presley and Parker, and it spans more than 20 years, from Presley's breakthrough to his status as an unprecedented superstar, against the backdrop of America's changing cultural landscape and loss of innocence. At the centre of that journey is one of the most important and influential people in Elvis' life: his wife, Priscilla Presley (played by up-and-coming Australian Olivia DeJonge). ‘Baz Luhrmann’s signature brash, glitter-bomb maximalism… leaves you dizzy with its frenetic blast of scorching colour, split screen, retro graphics and more edits per scene than a human eye can count. Add in the stratified, ear-bursting sound design and this is Baz times a bazillion.’—David Rooney, The Hollywood Reporter
